Our Philosophy

At Moss & Fern, we believe that creativity grows when learners feel safe, curious, and free to explore. Art is not simply about producing a finished product; it is a process of experimentation, discovery, and self-expression. Our classes emphasize hands-on exploration, sensory engagement, and the freedom to try new ideas without fear of getting things “wrong.”

We recognize that children learn in many different ways. Our teaching approach is flexible, responsive, and grounded in respect for each learner’s pace, interests, and needs. By creating a calm and welcoming environment, we aim to support confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging for every learner who walks through the studio doors.

Our teaching is also guided by trauma-responsive practices. This approach focuses on creating emotionally safe, predictable learning environments where children feel respected and supported. Because many neurodivergent youth have experienced stress or misunderstanding in traditional learning settings, trauma-responsive teaching helps build trust, support regulation, and create space for creativity to flourish.

Meet Jami F.

Hi, my name is Jami, and I am a neurodivergent artist, educator, and parent who believes that creativity is an essential part of how children explore the world and understand themselves. At Moss & Fern, I create hands-on art experiences that encourage curiosity, experimentation, and sensory discovery.

My teaching philosophy centers on meeting learners where they are and creating an inclusive environment where different ways of thinking and learning are valued. I am especially interested in supporting neurodivergent and sensitive learners as they develop confidence in their creative voice.
