Frequently Asked Questions
-
Moss & Fern classes are designed for mixed-age groups. Because lessons focus on creative exploration rather than strict outcomes, students with a range of ages and abilities can participate successfully. Siblings and family groups are welcome to enroll together.
-
Classes are intentionally small in order to create a calm and supportive learning environment. Most sessions are limited to around 10 students so that each learner receives individual attention.
-
No prior experience is necessary. Classes are designed so that beginners and more experienced students can explore materials and techniques at their own pace.
-
The class fee includes instruction, use of studio materials, and firing of ceramic pieces when applicable. Students will leave the session with finished artwork they have created during the course.
-
ach session runs for four weeks, with one 90-minute class per week. Pricing varies slightly depending on materials, but most sessions range from $85–$120 per student for the full four-week program.
-
Moss & Fern currently offers mobile classes, which means sessions may take place in community spaces, homeschool groups, or small local venues. Location details are provided when new sessions are announced.
Please reach out via our contact form to find out about class discounts if a family wants to host a class or a session.
-
Yes. Moss & Fern was designed with neurodivergent learners in mind. Classes emphasize flexibility, sensory exploration, and a calm learning environment where students are encouraged to work at their own pace.
We understand that new experiences may be challenging for neurodivergent learners, and we encourage anyone that is unsure if this is a good fit to come to a class to observe before committing.
No materials will be provided for observation-only students until the class fee is paid.
-
Families are encouraged to share any information that may help us support their child’s learning experience. Because classes are small, we are often able to make thoughtful adjustments that help learners feel comfortable and successful.
-
This may depend on the location and age of the child. In many cases parents are welcome to stay nearby, especially for younger learners or students who feel more comfortable with a familiar adult present.
-
Art can be messy. Students should wear comfortable clothing that can get a little dirty, especially during clay sessions.
-
Because class sizes are intentionally small, each enrollment reserves a limited spot in the session. Cancellations made at least 7 days before the start of a session are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 7 days before the session begins may not be refunded, but families may request to transfer their enrollment to a future session if space allows.
If Moss & Fern needs to cancel a class due to weather, illness, or unforeseen circumstances, families will receive either a make-up class or a full refund for the canceled session.
-
Because each session builds gradually from week to week, make-up classes are not always possible. However, when feasible, students may be able to complete missed work during the following class or receive guidance on finishing their project at home.
If a student must miss a class, families are encouraged to let us know in advance so we can help support their progress in the session.
-
Ceramic pieces require time to dry and be fired in a kiln before they are ready to take home. Because of this process, finished clay artwork is usually available 2–3 weeks after the final class of a session. Families will be notified when artwork is ready for pickup.
For non-ceramic projects, students will typically bring their artwork home at the end of each class.
