A 4-week handbuilding clay session
In this nature-inspired clay session, students will create small ceramic bird feeders using the traditional pinch pot technique. Learners will explore how simple clay forms can be shaped into functional objects while developing hand-building skills, fine motor control, and experimenting with texture and design.
Throughout the first three weeks of session, students will practice shaping pinch pots, explore natural texture impressions using leaves and other materials, and learn decorative techniques such as sgraffito carving. In the final week, students will combine these techniques to create a finished bird feeder of their own design.
• Pinch pot clay construction
• Nature-based texture impressions
• Sgraffito carving techniques
• Designing functional ceramic objects
Length: 4 weeks
Class time: 90 minutes per class
Class size: Limited to 10 students
Age guidance: Mixed-age learners welcome
Medium: Hand-built ceramics
Clay pieces will be fired in a kiln after the session. Finished artwork will be available for pickup approximately 2–3 weeks after the final class.
