A 4-week handbuilding clay session
In this functional pottery session, students will design and build their own ceramic juice cups using slab-building techniques. This project introduces learners to the process of turning flat clay slabs into sturdy vessels while encouraging creative surface decoration and personal design choices.
In the first three weeks of session, students will learn how to roll clay slabs, construct cylindrical forms from flat pieces, and experiment with decorative techniques such as carving, texture impressions, and surface design. In the final week, learners will combine these skills to complete a handmade cup they can use at home.
• Slab construction techniques
• Creating functional ceramic vessels
• Texture and carving for surface design
• Personalizing handmade pottery
Length: 4 weeks
Class time: 90 minutes per class
Class size: Limited to 10 students
Age guidance: Mixed-age learners welcome
Medium: Hand-built ceramics
Clay pieces will be fired in a kiln after the session. Finished artwork will be available for pickup approximately 2–3 weeks after the final class.
